  1. Smooth Gee

From the recording Smooth Gee

Smooth Gee: This instrumental starts with electro acoustic Latin percussion and uses a simple two chord piano riff as the main theme. The instrumental is named after the key it was written in: “G”  Before all the overdubs, the basic tracks and groove were very mellow, laid back & “smooth” but the working title name stuck even after the rowdier overdubs. The bass guitar plays a single note of G through the whole song as all the other sounds swirl around it in different times. Like most of Viva Bird's music this was written and shaped as it was multi-tracked. Overdubbing lots of takes and instruments and then pulling out or erasing sounds and musical parts is typically how the songs are shaped & recorded. Instruments played are a MO6 Yamaha synth for the percussion and main drum loop, piano riff and wind/string instruments, an Akai XR 20 beat making machine and an Alesis SR18 drum machine for the several different beat and percussion loops, a Korg Kaossilator and a Korg Electribe SX for various melodic lead synth sounds, A Fender Jazz bass, an Epiphone Wilshire electric guitar, an American made Fender Telecaster and a Yamaha classical guitar. This un-mastered final mix is made straight from the multi-track to the cd burner.
